Beyond the Seven: Exploring the Minor Chakras of the Human Body

When we talk about chakras, most people are familiar with the seven major energy centers aligned along the spine—from the root chakra at the base to the crown chakra at the top of the head. But the body’s energetic architecture is far more intricate. In fact, yogic and esoteric traditions describe dozens—if not hundreds—of minor chakras that play important roles in our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

These lesser-known energy points are like satellite hubs that help distribute life force (prana or chi) throughout the body. Here are some of the most commonly known and significant minor chakras:

🌟 The Palm Chakras (Located in the center of each palm)

These chakras are especially active in energy healers, musicians, and artists. The palms are natural portals for giving and receiving energy, making these chakras vital for intuitive touch and expressive communication through the hands. When activated, the palms can feel warm, tingly, or pulsing.

Use: Healing, creativity, energy transmission

Support: Reiki, massage, mudras, playing instruments

🌟 The Sole Chakras (Located in the center of each foot)

The chakras in the soles of the feet connect us deeply to the Earth, serving as grounding points. These help us release energy into the Earth and draw up stabilizing frequencies from nature. If you're feeling scattered or “ungrounded,” tuning into your foot chakras can be incredibly centering.

Use: Grounding, embodiment, energetic detox

Support: Walking barefoot, grounding meditations, salt baths

🌟 The Knee Chakras

The knees symbolize flexibility and our ability to move forward in life. These chakras are said to reflect our relationship to surrender, ego, and personal will. When the knee chakras are balanced, we approach life transitions with grace.

Use: Mobility, humility, adaptability

Support: Movement meditation, releasing fear of change

🌟 The Ear Chakras

Located near the temples, these chakras are linked to clairaudience—the ability to receive messages through sound and subtle frequencies. They support both spiritual listening and deep, conscious hearing in everyday life.

Use: Intuitive hearing, sacred sound attunement

Support: Sound baths, chanting, binaural beats

🌟 The Higher Heart Chakra (Located between the heart and throat)

Sometimes called the thymus chakra, this minor yet powerful chakra bridges love (heart) and expression (throat). It’s associated with compassion for the collective, higher truth, and soul-centered service.

Use: Unconditional love, empathy, spiritual purpose

Support: Breathwork, rose oil, heart-centered affirmations

🌟 The Spleen Chakra (Near the spleen, left side of the body)

This chakra is considered important in many healing traditions because it filters emotional and psychic energy. It plays a role in immune function and sensitivity to the environment.

Use: Emotional processing, energetic boundaries

Support: Lymphatic massage, grounding crystals, rest

🌟 The Navel Chakra (Different from the Sacral)

Not to be confused with the sacral chakra (which is lower), the navel chakra is a minor energy center located directly at the navel. It relates to life force, digestion (physical and emotional), and personal identity.

Use: Inner power, vitality, core integration

Support: Core strengthening, breathwork, abdominal massage

Why Explore the Minor Chakras?

The more finely attuned we become to our body’s energetic terrain, the more empowered we are to heal, create, and evolve. Minor chakras support the major chakras, acting as bridges, amplifiers, or filters for prana as it flows through the body’s meridians and nadis.

Whether you’re working with sound, movement, or meditation, these lesser-known chakras offer beautiful new frontiers for healing and spiritual exploration. Try tuning in during your practice—you might be surprised at how much wisdom they hold.
